Doug Montgomery is a most sought after performer. A graduate of Northwestern University and The Juilliard School of Music, he got his start at the age of 10 in his hometown of Chicago. While still a Juilliard student, he won the Musical Arts Competition in Chicago and top prize in the Robert Casadesus Piano Competition in Cleveland. Perhaps the reason for this popularity is his ability to present both classical and pops music with equal skill and finesse. The talented Michael Feinstein has said about Montgomery, “He is a gifted musician who is equally at home performing Chopin or singing show tunes. The wondrous part is that he does both with great style, verve and talent.” In fact the two men have been compared to one another on more than one occasion, Montgomery being referred to as the Michael Feinstein of the Southwest. The reference is made because Doug currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He’s extremely popular and has appeared as a solo artist throughout the United States and Europe. He regularly appears at social events, fund raisers, college programs, concerts on cruises and frequently plays for functions in the Governor’s Mansion. He was also asked to play at the 1988 Presidential inauguration of George Bush in Washington D.C. Most recently, the Arthritis Foundation of New Mexico and Arizona, has chosen Doug Montgomery as its first “Artist of the Year”, in recognition of his devotion to bringing the healing powers of music to thousands of listeners annually. A versatile recording artist, his numerous CD’s display his formidable technical prowess combined with consummate sensitivity and musicality. His most recent efforts include a CD of 14 original compositions called “The Pianist Dreams” and a collection of Spanish and Italian favorites called “Mediterranean Nights.”
